Orkney 2011

A few shots from our recent trip to Orkney.

It's a short walk up to Marwick Head and the Kitchener memorial adjacent to the spot where HMS Hampshire was sunk in WWI with loss of most of the crew and Lord Kitchener.

Sunset at The Ring of Brodgar. A very special place best enjoyed without a coach party...

The vista from Wideford Hill chambered cairn. A stone-age tomb with a great view.

The view from inside the tomb. Daisy waiting impatiently.

Across Scapa Flow to Hoy. Orkney is an amazing place for cloud watching.

Early morning light (5:30 am and Daisy and me are out for a walk)

An Inukshuk gazes out over a quiet bay with a long-ago beached ship rusting slowly. Starlings were nesting in the hull.

The cottage we stay at (this was our 5th visit here but Daisy's first)
