Madeira Holiday Snaps

We just returned yesterday from Madeira - our 5th visit and a wonderful week. We know the island well enough to cherry-pick our favourite places to re-visit. What a huge effort has been put into repairing the damage of Feb 2010's mudslides. Only a few remote paths are still affected.

Dawn breaks over the harbour at Funchal. Minutes later it's starting to get hot.

The morning sun's golden light on a church door.

Photographers swarm round the market and I've some good photos from previous years too. It's colourful in its hustle and bustle.

meanwhile up in the mountains...

...we walk along the cool of the levada paths.

Early one morning to catch the first rays of light on the mountains (only 11 C this high, this early)

Back in Funchal everyone's sheltering from the unseasonably warm autumn sun but the city's glorious colours shine out...

See you next time Madeira.
